Our Story
Outer City Mission Trust was established in 2009 and began with the lease of Oak Tree Lodge in
Pahiatua. Oak Tree Lodge has four fully self-contained units with a communal kitchen and laundry, a manager’s house, and tranquil gardens.
Our aim is to provide a caring, safe environment; where residents feel accepted and are supported to address the issues in their lives, whilst maintaining a level of independence, and with an emphasis on personal responsibility.
Note - there is no daily programme and individuals need some self motivation to get the most from their stay.
Kia ora,
We are Val and Grant Mcullough
We have the privilege of managing Oak Tree Lodge.
We both grew up in the Hawkes Bay, but raised our family in the Manawatu, and are now enjoying our growing family of grandkids! We are both registered nurses, with hospital and GP practice based experience.
We have a passion for helping others find freedom and a life of value and purpose. We believe that it is possible no matter what - whether facing addictions, self harm, trauma, or crisis of any kind.
We offer practical and emotional support; and, believing that a relationship with God who made us and loves us is the basis of successful recovery, we offer opportunities to explore this further. Whenever possible on-going support and follow up is offered after leaving.

Oak Tree lodge is tucked away amongst quiet gardens in a peaceful neighborhood. Residents have one of 4 self contained studio units for the duration of their stay. This includes their own bathroom & kitchenette. There is a shared communal full kitchen and laundry facility located at the end of the units. Furntiture, linen, cooking implements, cutlery and crockery are provided. Food, toiletries and personal items are the responsibility of the residents. Residents are responsible for their own meals, although communal meals happen periodically.
